Pedro Mata Rodriguez and Joseph Mark McCormick may be the poster boys for the issues of dealing with Sex Offenders, tracking them and potential flight to other states, countries and their eminent return to the US.

It may take up to three years for states to implement this act  but isn’t this what the “Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Protection Act of 2006″ was designed to stop?

Chairman Sensenbrenner said, “This legislation makes one thing clear to sex offenders across this country — you better register, and you better keep your information current, or you are going to jail. More than 100,000 sex offenders currently fail to register and are ‘missing,’ with locations unknown to the public and law enforcement. The children of America will be safer today because of this legislation championed by John Walsh and so many other victims that have responded to tragedy with determination, focus, and inspiration.

In the case of Pedro Mata Rodriguez, Mark Hurlbert, the district attorney, has decided to drop the warrant for kidnapping against Rodriguez, although he may still level charges for failing to register as a sex offender, a misdemeanor.
