Florida recently became the 12th State to implement Silver Alerts issuing eight alerts since Oct. 8 th. Many law enforcement officials believe AMBER Alerts are not issued very often to avoid them being overused, In fact, according this 2007 AMBER ALERT Study Florida only issued six all year which was approximately 5% of the total issued all year nationwide.
Of the 227 AMBER Alerts issued between January 1, 2007, and December 31, 2007, 188 cases resulted in a recovery, 48 of which were successfully recovered as a direct result of those respective AMBER Alerts being issued. Six (6) children were recovered deceased, and as of
February 20, 2008, when statistics for this report were generated, no AMBER Alerts issued in
2007 remained active.
In this article from First Coast News, FDLE Special Agent Dominick Pape was quoted as saying. “the Silver Alerts are proving to be successful: of the seven alerts that went out from October 8th through October 27th, two missing persons were found thanks to the Silver Alert”.
