An AMBER Alert was issued Sunday for a missing 12-year-old Bradenton, Florida child who later returned unharmed. She apparently had left her mother’s home after an argument and was presumably went for a walk to “cool off”. A man in his 40’s at one point picked her up an was with her overnight. She was descibed as wearing a gray sports bra, jeans and no shoes. The family moved to Florida from Minnesota last fall.

MANATEE — Authorities on Sunday began questioning a man they say is connected to the disappearance of a girl who went missing Saturday and turned up a day later.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office issued a Missing Child Alert on Saturday and an Amber Alert was put out for the 12-year-old northwest Bradenton girl on Sunday. The girl’s grandfather said she walked into the family’s home in the 5500 block of 2nd Avenue West around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
“After interviewing (her) and following up on several leads, detectives have identified and located the person who was with (her).” said sheriff’s spokesman Dave Bristow. “He is being questioned regarding this incident with charges against him pending.”
Bristow said the suspect, in his 40s, picked the girl up in a red sport utility vehicle resembling a Jeep Cherokee around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of 75th Avenue West and Manatee Avenue.
“He was there when she was walking and she got into his SUV,” Bristow said. “She was with the person overnight and she was dropped off earlier today near her home.”
There are 6 children listed as missing between the ages of 12-13 years-old listed at the NCMEC, however all went missing prior to turning 12.

Eighty-one percent of nonfamily abducted children and 58 percent of stereotypical kidnapping victims were age 12 or older (table 2). Nonfamily abduction victims overall were particularly concentrated among the oldest groups, with 59 percent being 15–17 years old.
Girls were the predominant victims of nonfamily abductions overall and of stereotypical kidnappings as well (65 percent and 69 percent, respectively), reflecting the frequency of sexual assault as a motive for many nonfamily abductions.
Update: Man who picked up Manatee County Amber Alert girl arrested
MANATEE COUNTY, FL. – The man that picked up a missing girl in Manatee County is now facing charges.
The 12-year-old girl was the focus of an Amber Alert over the weekend.
According to a report from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, 46-year-old Kenneth Ross picked the girl up in the 5600 block of Manatee Avenue West.
The report says she got into a fight with her grandmother and left her home wearing a sports bra, jeans and no shoes.
Deputies say Ross drove the girl to his home in the 3600 block of Lake Bayshore Drive, where they drank whisky, watched pornographic DVD’s and had sex.
Update 04-01-09: Manatee man charged in rape of girl
Kenneth R. Ross, of the 3600 block of Lake Bayshore Drive, was arrested around 9:25 p.m. Sunday on numerous felony charges in the case, including lewd and lascivious battery and molestation, interference with child custody and providing alcohol and harmful motion pictures to a minor.
