When Bryan Dos Santos-Gomes first was abducted last year, there was speculation he was a victim of a “Coyote” or an organized Human Smuggling ring.

A 14-year-old boy, who was kidnapped Christmas Eve, was found safe in Austin Tuesday afternoon. His kidnapping was likely related to an attempt by an illegal immigrant smuggler to get more money from the teen’s family.

Posters of missing Madeleine McCann are said to be being removed from many high profile pulic places in Portugal. Even the church they once attended frequently,  Our Lady of Light in Praia da Luz, has removed them according to the Telegraph. The rationale is they are trying to return to normalcy. Is that happening in the cases too?

Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for the McCanns, said: “The posters have been coming down at different stages over the past few months. There is no suggestion that the town has turned its back on Madeleine.”

In Aruba: The unsolved case of Natalee Holloway may also come to an end.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Aruba’s chief prosecutor said he will close the case of missing American teenager Natalee Holloway by the end of the month unless his office finds that there is enough evidence to charge someone with a major crime.

In Michigan:

In this article from the Telegraph it does raise an interesting point. When there is the need for translators to assist in investigations, what if the person providing the service possibly committed the crime? It is important to note Robert Murat has not been convicted of abducting Madeleine McCann nor have the Portuguese Police released any details of him mistranslating anything.

Madeleine McCann: Possible translation errors

“In the early days of the investigation there were dozens of statements being given at what was a very confusing time,” a police source said.“Obviously the police acted in good faith in their selection of translators but given all that has been said about the various contradictions in the versions of events, detectives are now re-examining the possibility that there may have been some problems,” he said.

Last year in the alleged abduction of Bryan Dossantos-Gomes in Florida Police also needed to rely on others to translate from a Brazilian community in Florida.

However they enlisted the the assistance of Rev. Israel Suarez, who runs Nations Association Charities and was not someone offering to help from a crowd . In a recent press conference he urged more involvement by the public and the parents to help find Bryan Dossantos-Gomes.

We’ve had great input from the Spanish (-speaking) community, but not from the Brazilian community,” he said. “We’re going to meet with the Brazilian leadership. They have to come out on this.”

Asked specifically what Dos Santos could do, he said: “She could hand out fliers, go door to door, talk with people. The parents need to be out in front.”

Annually, there are approximately 115 children in the U.S. who are victims of a “stereotypical” kidnapping. These crimes involve someone the child does not know or a slight acquaintance who holds the child overnight, transports the child 50 miles or more, kills the child, demands ransom, or intends to keep the child permanently. There are annually 203,900 children victims of family abductions.

There are approximately 584 children under the age of 5-years-old murdered each year. Infanticide is the term given to the killing of a child. The term doesn’t differentiate between whether the act was intentional or accidental. In the U.S. the infanticide rate is thought to be declining and is consistent across all racial groups.
