The father of Casey Anthony, George, was taken in to custody under the Florida Baker Act.  He reportedly had threatened suicide and was “missing”. He can be held up to 72 hours while his mental health is evaluated.

(CNN) — The grandfather of slain Florida toddler Caylee Anthony was taken into custody early Friday after being reported missing late Thursday, sheriff’s deputies and a family attorney said.

George Anthony has defended his daughter, Casey, who is accused in the death of his granddaughter, Caylee.

1 of 2 Detectives found George Anthony at the Hawaiian Inn Hotel in Daytona Beach at 2:30 a.m. ET Friday, said Jeff Williamson, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s department.

Brad Conway, the Anthonys’ attorney, told CNN affiliate WFTV that Anthony was taken into custody under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows the state to hold people involuntarily pending a psychiatric evaluation.

Two years ago, Melinda Duckett, the mother of missing child Trenton Duckett,  committed suicide after being interviewed by Nancy Grace. He remains missing.

The family of missing Jaliek Rainwalker  simply moved after the father  was named a person of interest.

In Florida last year an AMBER Alert was activated for 15-year-old 15-year-old Morgan Leppert after the murder of 65-year-old James Stewart. The defendant, Toby Lowry, should escape the death penalty in exchange for life in prison.

Man Pleads Guilty in Putnam Amber Alert-Murder Case

PALATKA, FL — The man arrested for allegedly killing a man and fleeing with a teenaged girl told a judge Friday morning he is guilty.

23-year-old Toby Lowry changed his not guilty plea to a guilty plea Friday morning in Palatka.


Update 02-03-09: 
George Anthony was released from the hospital Tuesday evening and plans to continue his recovery with outpatient counseling.
