At the same time Mark Lunsford is waiting to address  has addressed a Citrus County Florida Court, concerning the death penalty for John Couey who was convicted for the kidnap, rape and murder of 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford, a mother in North Carolina is fighting a different battle.

CHARLOTTE — The mother of a murdered 10-year-old is fighting to keep her daughter’s killer behind bars.

Amanda Marie Ray was kidnapped, beaten, sexually assaulted and killed nearly 30 years ago. Her killer, Fred Coffey Jr., was sentenced to death twice, but his sentence was later reduced to life in prison.

Yesterday in Florida ,Gov. Crist signed a death warrant  in the case which led to passage of the Junny Rios-Martinez Act of 1992, which prohibits sex offenders from early release from prisons. His attorney was arguing against the death penalty so he could be studied as a scientific mystery.


In Brevard County in 1991, convicted sex offender Mark Dean Schwab got out of prison five years early and abducted, raped, tortured and murdered 11-year-old Junny Rios-Martinez. Schwab is on death row at Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, Florida.
