An AMBER Alert was issued in Novato, California for a one -year-old child who was later found unharmed around midnight Sunday. The suspect, James Mitchell is in custody.
NOVATO, Calif. (KCBS) — Novato police have issued a statewide Amber alert for a murder suspect who is believed to have kidnapped a one-year-old child.
The incident began just before 7 Sunday night when suspect James Raphael Mitchell, 27, allegedly attacked the mother of the baby girl with a baseball bat, killing the woman, according to police. He then took off with the child, identified as Samantha Mitchell, in a 2007 light gold or tan Honda Civic, officials said. The vehicle license number is CA/5XAT527.
James Mitchell is described as a white male, 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, bald head, unshaven with a muscular build. He was said to be wearing a white t-shirt and dark colored pants.
The child is a year old with black hair and blue eyes. She was wearing a pink outfit.
Mitchell is reportedly armed and has threatened to kill any law enforcement officer he comes into contact with, according to Novato police.
Some other children whom remain missing and are victims of family abductions involving attacks or murders.
