On a weekend when there was plenty of news in the United Kingdom concerning alleged terrorist activity this “news” about Madeleine McCann was interesting, but not for the glaring headlines. It was because traditionally a legitimate news story is followed by comments and opinions. In this instance it starts with a commentary citing various blog theories concerning a possible hoax and then is followed the next day by a news story as if it was some form of breaking news.
Admittedly, my site is not a news agency or media outlet but simply a personal blog about missing children and some of the issues surrounding them. It is linked to some crime blogs often cited by mainstream media for the insight they provide such as Crimeblog.Us, True Crime Blog UK or any of the “True Crime Blogs” listed in the sidebar to the right, who actually in some cases do break news or advance a criminal investigation.
It’s quite another matter when a news source seems to “manufacture” the news, by posting a surefire controversial comment backed by other opinions, and then proceeds to report on it as if it were truly headline making.
Note: The conspiracy theories continue. Some British papers are suggesting the friends of Gerry and Kate McCann had met with Robert Murat prior to her disappearance in some clandestine form of coverup.Why haven’t they attacked the Bryan Adam’s song (Everything I do) I do it for you, at the Bring Madeleine Home site. Is the song from Madeleines point of view or her parents?
Is it possible for them to just report actual facts and concede enough is enough?
Update 08-07-08 A Reuters news story is reporting the Diario de Noticias daily has cited sources close to the investigation as saying Madeleine may have been murdered. It is important to note the results are not back from blood being analyzed from the apartment she was believed to have been abducted from on May 3rd.
Not only will recent reports spur more possible theories about her disappearance, U.S. media outlets are now re-interested in providing the details as they are released.
“Portuguese police have known for a month that Madeleine McCann was killed that night (May 3) at the apartment in the Praia da Luz resort, having definitely rejected the chance that she may have been kidnapped,” the newspaper said.

Update 08-12-07 Quoting what some might descibed as the equivalent of a U.S. tabloid, the TimesOnline reported this story but didn’t provide a link to the article.
As a result the Portuguese press have speculated wildly. Yesterday Sol, a weekly newspaper, claimed the McCanns’ Renault Scénic may have been used to transport Madeleine’s body after she died in the apartment.
A spokesman for the couple pointed out that the car was rented five weeks after Madeleine disappeared and has already been searched by police.

Note: In this TimesOnline article, would it be helpful to understand what an Amber Alert is, the U.S. criteria by State for issuing one and how they are actually broadcast before condemning them as a PR exercise? There are abuses and false alarms but when properly executed they have proven to save children. You can be assured the streets of America are not lined with parents wanting their children photographed nor fingerprinted.
US officials claim loudly that 800,000 kids go missing a year. In fact almost all are runaways or result from custody disputes. Yet the official Amber Alert mentality has impressed mistrust of strangers upon the public psyche, as parents queue to have police photograph and fingerprint their children in readiness for when they, too, are abducted.
Update 08-15-07 Is this a breaking headline or an effort to drive traffic to a site or sell newspapers? If the blood hasn’t even been identified as hers, is it responsible to attempt to persuade anyone to jump to conclusions? Why would it take almost 100 days for Investigators to have dogs attempt to find a scent?

Update 08-16-07 According to SKY News the blood analysis results are still unknown.
The results of tests on blood traces found in the apartment from which Madeleine McCann disappeared are not yet known, contrary to some newspaper reports.
However the Times Online states differently
The Times revealed today that Portuguese detectives have been told that traces of blood found in the bedroom where Madeleine was abducted are not from her. A Portuguese police source confirmed today: “We have been told that the blood was from a man.”

The Times revealed on Thursday that the preliminary notes from the headquarters of the Forensic Science Service in Birmingham showed that traces of blood in the apartment had come from a man.
However, the findings received by the Laboratório de Polícia Científica in Lisbon on Wednesday indicated that the blood samples were too damaged to be checked against the DNA database of British sex offenders. Scientists have been attempting to recover a better profile.

When they found names and four-digit numbers on a spreadsheet they were convinced they had unearthed “encrypted codes for a paedophile ring.”But the list was simply a family tree giving the names and birth dates of the estate agent’s relatives…
Update 08-21-07 On his blog Gerry McCann made this reference to LUSA. Ironically, there is no other mention on the site of them in all the news articles. If they are an official source, why not refer to them to avoid all the rumors and innuendos printed these past few months?

Those of who you that read the blog regularly know how difficult it has been for us not to respond to many of the slurs against our behaviour leading up to Madeleines disappearance. We have consistently stated that we will not put new information into the public domain that might jeopardise the investigation and in fact, we are constrained by Portuguese Law as witnesses from doing so. There has been some wild speculation reported in the press about what may have happened to Madeleine. Most of the innuendo regarding Kate and me has died down in light of the statements from the official Portuguese Police spokesperson. However last Friday, a Portuguese newspaper published a front-page headline ‘PJ believes that the parents killed Maddie’. We firmly believe that the report was speculative, defamatory and published despite official statements to the contrary.
As well as damaging our personal and professional reputations, such allegations smear the investigation, the campaign to find Madeleine and cause great offence and anxiety to all our family. This is why, after careful consideration, we have issued a writ against the newspaper for defamation. Our focus has, and always will be, on doing our best to help find Madeleine. This lurid allegation is so serious and wide of the mark that we feel it cannot go unchallenged.
The legal expenses for the proceedings will not be paid from Madeleines fund.
Update: 09-07-07 Kate McCann is expected to be named a suspect in Madeleine’s disappearance. It is possible Gerry could be named as well later today. Initial reports indicate it does not mean Portuguese Police are any closer to solving the case.
The status of suspect or arguido/arguida confers certain legal protections under Portuguese law, including the right to remain silent in interviews and to have a lawyer present. It is not uncommon for people caught up in criminal investigations in Portugal to declare themselves arguidos in order to receive this protection.
Fox News Channel is reporting this from Sky News. She has allegedly turned down the offer.

I believe that the madeline case was indeed a hoax. Its amazing that people like ian huntley and ian brady can have thier victims found but madeline cant be. Its amazing that thier families didnt visit the pope and have 12 month long holidays. I think that apart from the attempt to reach a higher social strata that indeed that she went missing for about an hour and when the police turned up and the parents already had found her, the parents had to go along with that story in order for no criminal conviction. I think that she is back home and the parents are covering her up. Bring out the truth!
In the UK we only get the info the media choose to give us. I’ve got a gut feeling that there is more to this particular story that can be imaginged. I strongly believe this crime will be a ‘first’ in more ways than one. Nothing will suprise me.
Did the parents take a polygraph. That would go along why in proving their innocence. I have not hear any mention of it and I wonder why
Ever heard of the Jonbenet Ramsey case in the US, it was never solved, interesting similarities. Remarkable likeness in appearance and age of child. Affluent respected parents with substantial support infrastructures, huge media influence, amazing strength of parents all through the ordeal, over-the-top fundraising/support effort from parents from day one. Major pre-preparation of defence and controlling of information and media by parents. Subsequent allegations that the mother accidentally killed the child, then with support of husband, possibly due to fear of wrecking their reputation (both parents professional people with substantial business/careers) concealing the death and/or acusations of moving/disposing of bodies. The plot thickens, perhaps a new type of child killer will be defined. OJ proved that money, knowledge & resources can achieve great things, dangerous & disgusting, but great things.
Here’s my theory, both Affluent doctors, pressurised work environs, three under 4 children, no privacy, access to medications, one of the parents (possibly the mother as caretaker, doses the kids to sleep), Perhaps overdoses one or the kid gets up in the middle of the night groggily and falls out of bed seriously injuring or killing itself. Kid is discovered, being a doctor, identifies all the signs and tries to conceal the evidence by hiding the child (somewhere nearby), then raises the alarm, without the husbands knowledge. Later with all the media and search circus (self created), manages to take the hire car in early hours of morning and dispose of same. I hope its accidental for their sake, anything pre-meditated and they will ruin any chance future abducted children will have of getting support.

The parents have something to do with the dissaperance. I belive they got her kidnapped to make money from it and in time the person who has here will look after her and give her back to the parents in a couple years. Than the story will end and the family are much more richer.
Omg are you people stupid or something. Obviously someone has taken her otherwise they would have found her body. Madeline is alive and Her parents havent hoaxed it, I doubt they would need the money.
To sb (above) – it’s extremely rude to call other people stupid simply because they have a different opinion from yours. There is no ‘obviously someone has taken her’ about this case at all. It is perfectly possible to get rid of a body in such a way that it may never be found – if you don’t believe me ask the police and they’ll explain it to you. And hasn’t it occurred to you that if someone can hide a living Madeleine (as you seem to believe is the case) then it would be even easier to hide a dead Madeleine. Dead people tend to make less noise and have fewer needs than live ones.
Is it a hoax? No, I personally don’t think so. I think Madeleine is dead becausethe Portuguese police seem to think so and they are the people with the evidence. That there has been no change in the focus of their investigation seems to suggest the evidence is compelling, but that doesn’t mean it’s enough to bring charges. As the police have already said about the DNA – indicative, not conclusive.
I will have the good sense to say I could be wrong, the police could be mistaken, though obviously I think they are on the right track. But I don’t think we will ever see Madeleine again and I hope that at some time, maybe not now but in the future, those who made her ‘disappear’ will be brought to justice. The truth will come out some day, I feel sure of that, and Madeleine will finally be able to rest in peace.
What I find most interesting is the fact that the madeline parents refuse to take a lie detecot test! Why? They even wanted it to be 100% accurate not 99% no one else has a problem with 99% accuracy butg they did! What is the implication in this strange request? What did they not eanted to be tested by an expert to see whether they had involement in their daughter’s disappearance?
A lot of politics were involved which contributed to the catalogue of error the portuguese authority did not get any support from the british media it bacame tribal loyalties and the little girls disappearnce took second place to politics

Trolls are getting larger and opening more sites to assault and abuse anyone with a pea size brain to see that something is not right here. The whole family remain silent after being so loud and accusing PJ of planting evidence.
Latest they are to sue Amaral for he dares to explain to the public at large the police investigation and how they arrived at the conclusion that the mccanns were involved in the disappearance of their daughter.
The Mccanns “forbid” any one in England to read the book or see the documentary…England has now become Mccanns Law and thanks to the spineless british press they are getting away with the crime of the century.
it is blindingly obvious to me that madeleine is dead. sadly her parents have become so ‘desensitised’ that they have actually brainwashed themselves into believing she has been kidnapped, despite them knowing the truth. my theory is that – as on every other night of the holiday – the children were ‘lightly sedated’ (both parents being doctors this was easy enough for them to do) – to ensure they slept through while the parents went out with their friends. (by the way – both the mccanns and their other friends with small children are despicable anyway for leaving their children alone and I dont believe for a minute all the stories about ‘routine half-hourly checks’ etc.) 2 possibilities from now: 1. madeleine wakes from a sedated sleep and groggily wanders from the apartment to look for her parents – she wanders down to the ocean … need I go on? …her parents realise later that this has happened but have to concoct the ‘kidnap’ theory to remove themselves from any blame … or 2. gerry finds her dead from an overdose of sedatives … panics as he knows they will be implicated and hides her body to deal with later … kate at first actually believes she has been taken but is later told by gerry what has actually happened and is bullied by him into hiding the body and going along with the kidnap story … now they are desperate for the book not to be published and for the british public to believe their story. It is desperation, guilt and torment you can see in their faces – not grief and sadness.
Think about this carefully. The McCanns probably have friends in portugal, not just friends that they go on holiday with, but friends who live there and are complicit in a conspiracy, not to commit murder but simply massive fraud. In a time when the economy was foretold as going to fail and when doctors jobs hung in the balance, they arranged for someone to mind maddy. Remember there is no actual evidence for the child being in the room, all the evidence states she was not in the room. Is it possible that the real reason Kate and Gerry went to portugal recently was to visit maddy? To let her know that they still love her? After all, the crime is being committed outside the UK, so they cannot be prosecuted there, the worse that could happen is that they are deported from portugal and lets face it for that much money you wouldn’t really care about being denied entry into one little country. When the Madeleine Fund gets big enough will she miraculously be found? Then the minder gets a fee, the rest stays with the McCanns. Think about it. Even the police in portugal did a botched job, were they paid to do a botched job, no one will admit this, as it’s tantamount to involvement in a conspiracy. Maddy sees it as a holiday, she would be taught by her minder also to avoid any suspicion, then when she goes back to regular school will be seen as a bright child.
