One last plea from Jessica’s Law Now NC seeking passage of a stronger “Jessica Lunsford Act” for North Carolina.
Release URGENT INFORMATION:
Citizens and Organizations have banned together to make a stand with Mark Lunsford at “Legislative Day” on Wednesday, April 25 , 2007 in Raleigh, NC. The mission is to facilitate the passing of HB 933/ Jessica Lunsford Act, for NC.
All this could be in vain since the Judiciary II Committee will hear HB 933/ Jessica Lunsford Act for NC. on Tuesday, April 24, 2007. If Chairman Rep. Dan Blue (D) or the Committee vetoes this bill, Mark Lunsford’s testimony on Wednesday, will be rendered moot and once again, the State of North Carolina will fail to pass a law to protect children. This would be a major step backwards, since last year HB 1921 (Version of Jessica’s Law) wasn’t even allowed to be heard.
Therefore, we all must call Rep Dan Blue’s Office on Monday, April 23rd. We must act now! Our Children’s lives and futures depend on all of us to enact. Last year, Rep Jennifer Weiss ( Democrat- Wake County) Killed H.B. 1921 which was a bill similar to “Jessica’s Law” and now, they want to do the same with H.B. 933/the Jessica Lunsford Act, for N.C. Just guess who is Vice Chairman of the Judiciary II Committee? You guessed it, Rep. Jennifer Weiss. Out of fifteen members of the JII Committee, nine are Democrats and six are Republicans. It is the Democrats we must call on Monday.
Judiciary II Committee has 15 members, (9) Democratics and (6) Republicans.REP DAN BLUE (DEM-WAKE) CHAIRMAN (919) 733-5752

This year various individuals and groups formed an action group called, “Jessica’s Law Now North Carolina.” Group was formed in response to the apathetic lawmakers, who are dithering about Jessica’s Law rather than making a solid difference toward protecting our children. This formed coalition is tired of all the prolonging games and excuses by our lawmakers when it comes to our children. We say, “Cut the fat! Rather spend on pet projects and guilt trips (Apologies for Slavery, Smoking Bans, Trans Fat Bans, etc.) focus!”
North Carolina has 111,000 children yearly reported “Abused” and “Neglected.” Presently, 10,000 registered “Sex Offenders” move to a new address or jobs daily. Children, women, elderly, incapacitated or handicapped people are especially at risk from sexual predators. North Carolina is no different; our cities have large number of registered sexual offenders. Individuals that commit sexual crimes against children need incarceration or strict comprehensive monitoring.
Statement By Headship -“Jessica’s Law Now North Carolina.”
“Over the past several years, I have given time to push for tougher laws, regarding sex crimes, especially sexual predators. Personally, I have worked with sexually abused children and have seen the effects. Words cannot even begin to describe seeing the rape of child’s innocent soul. The soul is amputated and takes a lifetime to repair, if ever!”
Our coalition assisted Maryland with their victory with Jessica’s Law this year. We have been honored by several known publications that have run various editorials and articles about our fight for Jessica’s Law for North Carolina.
One of our distinguish colleagues is Mrs. Janet Morrison, President Child Protection Coalition of North Carolina. She has been traveling the state of North Carolina speaking to groups about sex offenders and lax laws that North Carolina has. In her endeavors, she has been stonewalled by the lack of support from various state officials. Mrs. Morrison has been one of us on the battle lines help make Jessica’s Law a reality for North Carolina. She has helped make the following list possible and we are truly grateful.
